Drachennest
Cinder & EllaDrachennest is a restaurant inside the convention center where Ella and Brian Oliver meet after reconnecting at the convention. Its crowded dining room offers them a precarious compromise between privacy and public exposure: a tucked-away booth can conceal them from ordinary diners, but not from the cameras and fans who eventually surround their table. The restaurant’s shift from refuge to spectacle makes it the setting for both their first kiss and the sudden collapse of their anonymity.
Setting and Arrangement
The restaurant is inside the convention center, making it a convenient meeting place during the convention but not an especially private one. Brian chooses it in haste after Ella turns to leave; panicked, he can think only of the café where they had eaten lunch a few hours earlier. The choice reflects the limited dining options at the event rather than a carefully selected romantic venue.
At the convention’s busiest mealtime, Drachennest is crowded. A line of twenty people waits at the host stand, and Brian arrives fifteen minutes late. He has nevertheless reserved a quiet table at the back, hoping that the setting and his disguise will let the two of them talk without drawing attention.
A Sheltered Meeting
Brian enters wearing an elf-like cloak that helps him blend in among the fantasy fans. Apart from Ella and Scott, he believes nobody knows he intends to dine there. He expects that if he and Ella do not make a scene, they can remain undisturbed.
The restaurant’s manager helps preserve that limited privacy. When Ella arrives, a staff member greets her and leads her to a booth in the farthest corner, explaining that Mr Oliver is also a few minutes late and has sent an apology. The dining room has tables in its center and booths along the walls; the booth is not fully secluded, but it keeps Ella and Brian out of the main flow of diners. The careful seating arrangement offers a fragile buffer, not true protection.
The Kiss and the Exposure
At the back of the restaurant, the reunion turns intimate. Ella and Brian kiss, and the moment briefly takes on the quality of a fairy tale. That enclosure ends when a bright camera flash breaks directly in front of them, followed by more flashes and screams.
Photographers have gathered around their table, with a crowd of fans forming an impassable wall behind them. People film the pair on their phones, while men with cameras crowd Brian and press him with questions. The final recognition—Ella has not kissed the anonymous friend she knew as Cinder, but Brian Oliver—makes the exposure more than an interruption of a private date: it brings the difference between their online intimacy and his celebrity identity into the open.
Narrative Significance
Drachennest’s geography shapes the scene’s reversal. The rear booth seems private enough for a meeting, yet remains part of a large public dining room; the restaurant can shelter Ella and Brian only until the cameras arrive. The abrupt change from a quiet corner to a ring of reporters and fans turns the place into a boundary between personal connection and public spectacle. Their kiss begins as a moment they share, but its discovery makes the encounter visible to others and leaves their privacy behind.
